Why WiFi Falls Short

WiFi is often the first thing businesses try for warehouse connectivity. The equipment is familiar, readily available, and relatively inexpensive. But WiFi operates at high frequencies, 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and now 6 GHz, that struggle in warehouse environments. These frequencies don't propagate well around metal racking and dense inventory. The result is coverage gaps between aisles, dead zones in corners, and dropped connections for moving devices like forklifts and handheld scanners.

Operators often compensate by adding more access points, but this creates new problems. Overlapping coverage leads to channel interference. Devices roaming between access points experience connection drops. The network that worked during commissioning degrades as inventory levels change. Mobile coverage using low-band spectrum like 700 MHz behaves differently. Lower frequencies reflect and propagate through gaps that WiFi cannot reach, providing more consistent coverage with fewer devices.
